A Franklin man was arrested after police said he stole a bag from an airport in Florida.
Tampa International Airport police were able to identify Steven Fricke, 64, because he rented a car at the airport shortly after taking the bag, according to a police report. Police said Fricke took a bag that contained a $500 camera, laptop, prescription medication and clothing from a baggage carousel.
Fricke, 2460 N. County Road 500E, was arrested Thursday by a Johnson County sheriff’s deputy on a warrant.
A man reported that one of his bags was missing when he arrived at the airport. The man was delayed, so his bags arrived at the airport before he did, according to a police report. Police reviewed security footage and saw Fricke take the bag from the baggage carousel, then go to rent a car, according to a police report. Fricke, who had arrived in Tampa on Feb. 1, did not check any bags so police knew he did not accidentally take the wrong bag, the report said.
Investigators from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office interviewed Fricke, who said he took the bag and tossed it in a Dumpster in Tampa, according to the report.
Fricke was released on bond and was not sent to Florida.
