Police hope to find a man charged with child molestation before he can flee to Mexico.
Luciano Pino, 42, Greenwood, was charged with child molestation after a girl younger than 10 told police he touched her inappropriately, according to the police report.
Pino’s wife told police she hasn’t heard from him since she confronted him in July about what the girl said happened. Family members said Pino may flee to Mexico, according to a news release from the Greenwood Police Department.
Police are looking for Pino, who could be staying in the Indianapolis area, the release said.
Family members said Pino may still be in the area because he doesn’t have the money to go somewhere else, Greenwood Assistant Police Chief Matt Fillenwarth said.
Pino is from Mexico and has relatives living there, which is why his family said he may try to return. Police want to arrest him before he can leave the country, Fillenwarth said.
Bringing Pino back from Mexico would be extremely difficult, Fillenwarth added.
Pino was charged recently with child molestation after the girl reported the incident, which happened in July.
The girl told police she was watching television, and Pino began touching her. She told him to stop, but he didn’t, and she got up and walked away. The girl’s mother told police her daughter had been clingy and didn’t want to sleep alone at night, the report said.
The girl’s mother confronted Pino, who told her he had touched the girl. He then told his wife he knew their relationship could never be the same, packed his clothes and left the next day, according to the police report.
Pino, who most recently lived at 700 Wooddale Terrace, Apt. 2, was charged with the felony in August.
Police are asking anyone with information on Pino’s whereabouts to call the Greenwood Police Department at 887-5619.
