A Blue River Township man was arrested after police said he went into a woman’s unlocked apartment and stole debit cards and a cellphone.
Corey J. Dennison, 26, 4567 S. County Road 537E, was arrested on charges of residential entry, theft and receiving stolen property.
An Edinburgh resident told police she came home from walking her dog and noticed someone had opened her purse. Two debit cards were missing, along with her cellphone, which was charging by the front door, according to a police report.
Witnesses, including an employee from a business across the street, noticed a man leaving the apartment in the 300 block of Main Street. Surveillance video from a nearby gas station showed the man trying to buy gas with one of the stolen debit cards, but the machine rejected the card, the report said. The woman’s bank records showed that someone unsuccessfully tried to make purchases totaling nearly $200, police said.
Police found Dennison at a local restaurant and found the woman’s cellphone in his car, the report said.
Dennison was taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was being held on $26,000 bond.
