A weekend explosion west of Nineveh was caused by two men shooting at a target, police said.
Two residents in the area reported hearing an explosion in the 1100 block of West County Road 750S about 5 p.m. Sunday. Police found that two men at a property had shot an exploding target with a rifle, causing the noise, according to a police report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
The men told police they shot a pound of Tannerite, a powder that explodes when hit by gunfire. The men told police they didn’t think the target would make so much noise and would find somewhere else to shoot their rifles, the report said.
No one was arrested.
