Once again, it’s nearing time to honor Johnson County’s finest young athletes.
On June 10, the top senior athletes from the county’s six public high schools will be recognized during the 16th annual Johnson County Athlete of the Year Banquet at Franklin College.
Sponsored by the Daily Journal and the Johnson County athletics directors, the event honors male and female athletes for excellence in athletics and sportsmanship.
Each school nominates a male and female candidate for consideration as Athlete of the Year. An overall male and female winner then are selected by the Daily Journal sports staff.
Each school also selects a male and female winner for Outstanding Sportsmanship awards.
All Athlete of the Year nominees and Outstanding Sportsmanship winners will be recognized individually at the banquet.
Schools will announce their Sportsmanship winners and Athlete of the Year nominees by May 23. The event is open to the public.
A limited number of tickets will be available later next month at a cost of $25 per person.
