Homes and businesses near the Main Street construction project in Franklin were without working phone lines for about six hours Thursday.
Construction workers were digging in an area near Main and Herriott streets around noon Thursday when a couple of underground phone lines were crushed. CenturyLink phone lines were down in the area for about six hours, CrossRoad Engineers vice president Trent Newport said.
A vault, a box used to house cables at the point where they are spliced underground, collapsed when crews were digging in the area. Engineers were not notified about the vault and could have worked around the box better if they had known in advance, Newport said.
Newport did not know of any residents who lost Internet service.
