A downtown Franklin bar will be able to host events outside this summer, but the city has asked the operator to keep it down in order to address neighbors’ concerns.
The Grill Bar, 138 E. Jefferson St., will be allowed to hold six outdoor concerts that run until midnight. The owner also promised to disconnect an outdoor speaker neighbors complained about, as part of a compromise reached with the city.
Owner Larry Hughes requested exceptions to the city’s noise ordinance for 14 nights between May and August, but residents who live behind the bar and city officials both said the number of days was excessive.
Hughes told board of works members Monday that many of the concerts the bar hosted last year were moved inside because of weather and that the bar wouldn’t have outdoor events on every day requested this year. The city board of works gave Hughes flexibility to have outdoor events on any six of the requested 14 nights.
If the events run past midnight, the city could revoke future exceptions to the city’s noise rules as a punishment, board members said.
