A large and highly visible section of Greenwood Park Mall that has been empty for more than a year is getting a new tenant.
Naked Tchopstix, a family-owned sushi restaurant that started in Indianapolis, will fill a 6,300-square-foot space at the mall that previously was occupied by Stir Crazy. That restaurant, which had been a part of the mall’s outdoor lifestyle center since 2007, closed in January 2013.
The 115,000-square-foot lifestyle center replaced the L.S. Ayres Department Store with restaurants and shops, including BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse, the Cheesecake Factory and Barnes & Noble about seven years ago. Once Stir Crazy closed, mall officials immediately started looking for replacements.
Because the lifestyle center can be easily seen from U.S. 31, mall officials thought a new restaurant could attract a lot of business.
Several new tenants are moving into the mall as well. Those include Charming Charlie, which specializes in jewelry, handbags and other accessories; Charley’s Philly Steaks, Tucanos Brazilian Grill and eye care provider Visionworks.
“Our mall is continuing to grow and offer even more selections for our community to enjoy, and we welcome these restaurants and stores with enthusiasm and excitement,” mall manager Steve Kempe said in a news release.
