If you need to be fingerprinted to apply for a job or for certain permits, the service no longer will be free in Greenwood.
People who need to get fingerprinted when applying for jobs, getting background checks, completing adoption applications or applying for massage permits now have to pay $10 for the service.
People from outside the city were shopping around when getting fingerprinted and came to the Greenwood Police Department because the service was free, Assistant Chief Matthew Fillenwarth said.
Most police departments charge a fee, he said.
The police department doesn’t track the number of people it fingerprints, Fillenwarth said, so he doesn’t know how much the city could earn from the new fee.
