A Center Grove area mobile home was destroyed by fire Wednesday morning, leaving a man without a home.

Fire engulfed the home in lot 249 of Center Grove Estates, near Peterman and County Line roads.

The White River Fire Department was called about 9:30 a.m. and put out the fire in 10 minutes, but the home was destroyed, Fire Chief Jeremy Pell said.

The homeowner was not at the property when the fire occurred, and no injuries were reported. A neighbor reported the fire.

Water from a fire truck was used to put out the fire because the nearest hydrant was not working properly. The hydrant is private and has to be maintained by owners of the mobile home park, but it has had maintenance issues, Pell said.

The Bargersville Fire Department went to the scene in case more water was needed, but firefighters didn’t need to use the extra water, Pell said.

The fire was not considered suspicious, and the cause appeared to be electrical, Pell said.
