In Samuel Bowen’s studio, spools of metal wire are accented with streaks of acrylic paint.
Charcoal shadings and pastel paint juxtapose the feel and tone of the work. Bright yellows, oranges and blues are set off by cold stainless steel.
Bowen likes to mix and match to create his artwork, mixed-media pieces that seem to pull the viewer in different directions at once. He has based his career as an artist trying to tell stories, using elements that seem at odds with each other, even as he’s making them.
Bowen’s work is on display at the Art Bank in Indianapolis, where he will be the featured artist in August.
