Man killed when pickup leaves road near Trafalgar

Follow Daily Journal:

One man was killed after being thrown from a pickup truck in an accident near Trafalgar.

Police have not identified the man and are investigating what happened in the accident on County Road 300S, about 1.5 miles east of State Road 135.

About 2 p.m., the pickup went off the road, one man was thrown out of the vehicle, and the passenger-side doors were torn off the truck.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is working to determine who was driving the vehicle when the accident happened and if alcohol was involved. Police said the two men may be related, according to a news release. Police have not identified either man.

An 18-year-old man who had been in the vehicle told deputies that he was a passenger, but that’s not clear from the evidence, the release said. He was taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital for a blood draw to check for alcohol and drugs, which is typical when investigating a fatal accident.

Investigators found alcohol containers near the truck and were interviewing the 18-year-old about what happened.
