A Franklin man accidentally shot himself in the finger while taking apart a handgun in his home Thursday morning.
A Johnson County Sheriff’s deputy was called to Johnson Memorial Hospital to investigate a gunshot wound at about 9:30 a.m. The hospital is required to report firearm-related injuries to police, Sheriff Doug Cox said.
Glenn Johnson, 55, 835 S. Old U.S. 31, Lot 31, told the deputy that he was taking apart a handgun to clean it because he was going to sell it to a friend, according to the police report.
Johnson said he forgot to check to see if there was a round in the chamber and he pulled the trigger, accidentally shooting himself in the index finger on his other hand, the report said.
Police determined the shooting was an accident.
