A Greenwood man accidentally shot his mother in the leg while they were checking guns in the basement of her home.
The man, 23, told police he and his mother were taking inventory of the guns to decide which ones to sell. The incident happened about 3 p.m. Saturday in the woman’s home on Lake Drive.
The son was unloading a Glock handgun when it fired, striking his mother in the shin.
The gun had no magazine in it, and the chamber was empty, according to a police report. A deputy determined a bullet likely was in the chamber after the magazine was removed, which led to the accident.
The woman was taken by ambulance to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where she was treated and released by Sunday, according to the report.
