Judges are needed for an upcoming youth speech and debate contest at a local church.
Nearly 200 students from a six-state region will gather at the Community Church of Greenwood for a tournament sponsored by the National Christian Forensics and Communications Association starting Tuesday. The tournament ends Feb. 15.
Hundreds of community judges are needed to provide feedback to the students who are presenting a variety of speeches and two styles of debate.
Speakers may give humorous interpretations of skits, present a persuasive speech or spar in team policy debate.
The judges will give debaters and speakers a chance to practice in front of audience members who represent the people they’re most likely to address as adults.
The organization is looking for judges 18 or older from community groups such as Toastmasters, Lions clubs, Rotary clubs, Optimist clubs or other civic organizations; professionals with communications experience such as pastors, lawyers, judges, and teachers; business professionals; homemakers; local church members; and college students.
To become a judge, contact Beth Delph at email@example.com by Monday.
