Local caregiver earns industry honor for work

A local woman has been nominated for her caregiving skills and is one of 27 people who could be chosen for the Caregiver of the Year honor at the CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions Signature Breakfast on April 17.

The award honors a caregiver who models courage, sacrifice, strength and creativity while caring for another.

Ruby Riota of Franklin is a nominee. She is 80 and takes care of her 89-year-old husband, Jack. While she struggles with her own health challenges, Riotta does the grocery shopping, cooks, assists her husband with personal care and monitors his medical needs. In the past six months, she also has volunteered almost 540 hours as the volunteer coordinator for Johnson County Senior Services.
