Local caregiver earns industry honor for work

Follow Daily Journal:

A local woman has been nominated for her caregiving skills and is one of 27 people who could be chosen for the Caregiver of the Year honor at the CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions Signature Breakfast on April 17.

The award honors a caregiver who models courage, sacrifice, strength and creativity while caring for another.

Ruby Riota of Franklin is a nominee. She is 80 and takes care of her 89-year-old husband, Jack. While she struggles with her own health challenges, Riotta does the grocery shopping, cooks, assists her husband with personal care and monitors his medical needs. In the past six months, she also has volunteered almost 540 hours as the volunteer coordinator for Johnson County Senior Services.

The breakfast will be at the Ritz Charles in Carmel.

CICOA hosts the Signature Breakfast as an annual fundraiser. Last year’s event drew 420 people and raised more than $80,000 in gifts and pledges. To make a reservation or for information about sponsorship opportunities, call 803-6034.
