Library awarded grant through authors program

The Johnson County Public Library’s Franklin branch received a $2,500 grant, courtesy of a local author and the Indianapolis Public Library Foundation.

Author Micah Ling of Indianapolis selected Franklin for the award as part of her honor for being recognized with an Eugene & Marilyn Glick Indiana Author Award in the Emerging Author category. Ling teaches at Franklin College.

The authors who received the Glick awards were able to choose the library recipients of the grants.

The Glick award, a program of the Indianapolis Public Library Foundation, and the subsequent grants seek to recognize Indiana authors’ literary contributions in the state and elsewhere.

National Author Winner Margaret McMullan named the Evansville Vanderburgh County Public Library and the Willard Library’s Children’s Services Program as grant recipients in southwestern Indiana. Regional Author Winner Helen Frost named the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne as a grant recipient.

Public nominations of authors were submitted from across the state earlier this year. Eligibility included any published writer who was born in Indiana or has lived in Indiana for at least five years. A 10-member, statewide panel selected the winners in the three categories.
