To the editor:

As Veterans Day approaches, I am reflecting on how blessed we are to live in the greatest country in the world.

I am reminded that the freedoms that we enjoy and often take for granted came at a price, a cost that was willingly paid by our brave men and women in the U.S. Armed Forces.

As I thought of what these amazing heroes mean to me the following descriptions came to mind:

S: Selfless servant willing to sacrifice

O: Obedient and observant

L: Loyal, leader — he or she loves this country

D: Dedicated and determined

I: Intelligent, invincible, an instructor

E: Enforcer, efficient and an encourager

R: Ready, resourceful, rebuilder, restorer, respected and revered

To all who have served or are currently serving, thank you for the freedoms I enjoy each and every day. Thank you, and your families, for the sacrifices that you make to preserve the freedoms that we as Americans hold so dear. On this Veterans Day, may we remember that this is America — the Home of the Free because of the Brave. God Bless you all.
