To the editor:
Whoopie! Indiana has a surplus! Who else wants to celebrate besides the Pence for President Committee and the GOP political spin-artists?
Nationally Republicans have blocked Congress from working constructively on any of the country’s serious problems. In Indiana, Republicans have hamstrung local governments from obtaining resources to pay for police, fire, schools and all other services to their communities. They have supported a tax system that is abusive to seniors and low-income workers.
They have cut funds for revenue agents to pursue tax evaders, case workers for dealing with child and senior abuse, nursing home oversight, highway and bridge maintenance and the list goes on. At every turn Republicans cater to their corporate and wealthy donors while ripping off ordinary workers, seniors and children.
Wrapping themselves in the American flag and family values, they publish bumper sticker propaganda that they are compassionate. The conservative ideology is killing this country. It is institutionalized selfishness and brutality. How any working person can vote Republican is beyond belief. We should all pay attention to the billionaire Warren Buffet when he says, “There’s class warfare, all right, but it’s my class, the rich class, that’s making war, and we’re winning.”
