The more things change, the more they stay the same. We the people of Indiana were denied the right to vote on the Defense of Marriage law by Speaker Pat Bauer. He would never allow it to be brought up for a vote in the House although it had passed the House and Senate on previous occasions.

The tea party caused a surge in the number of Republicans in the House. Now this law would pass with flying colors, and we would vote on it in November. Wrong. The Republicans maneuvered a way to vote for it but deny us the right to vote on it for three years. Is Bauer still speaker of the House?

The House Republicans were trying to have it both ways. They voted for it without voting for it. What do we expect? The Republicans in the U.S. House always cave on raising the debt ceiling. There is one word not in the Republican vocabulary. Courage.

What do we expect? Politicians are like a bunch of bananas. When you first elect them they’re green. After a while they turn yellow. Then they turn black and are rotten.
