To the editor:
As a former county commissioner (1980-84) we worked full-time, met every Monday from
8 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. One of us was in the courthouse every day of the week, and we were on call 24/7. All for a salary of $6,000 per year.
These part-time positions should not be provided taxpayer funds for personal insurance. The county council is even worse ... working a few hours each month and expecting benefits.
Part-time elected officials should not be offered health insurance benefits at taxpayer cost.
People in this county ought to be up in arms about all of this. Maybe we should look at getting some new blood next election.
To summarize, as in the real world, no part-time employee should receive benefits ... part-time being under 40 hours a week.
