More than 100 Bartholomew County public high school students last month toured a local children’s car seat manufacturer and a pharmaceutical maker to increase interest in manufacturing careers. Another 100-plus will take the tour this month.

They are taking part in Manufacturing Day, an event that this year involves Dorel Juvenile Group and Applied Laboratories Inc. All of the students are in pre-engineering classes, a group identified as having the best potential candidates for the program.

“It will be interesting to see manufacturing applied in different ways,” said Kathleen Haegele, a Columbus North High School freshman who took part in last month’s session.
