To the editor:
In the Jan. 23 Daily Journal article regarding the retention of Garnet Vaughn, I was pleased to see that the city council voted 7-1 to continue her membership on the redevelopment commission. I have personally witnessed her in the acting (chairwoman) role on the commission and was impressed.
What I was disturbed with was the comment by dissenting council member Thom Hord about the redevelopment commission taking too much time “considering and vetting many projects.”
Many of the projects the commission considers are substantial in scope and cost, and they should take time in deliberation versus rushing into a decision. The expenditure of massive tax dollars should not be taken lightly. I value commission members who are behaving fiscally responsible with our tax dollars.
