It was disappointing to learn of the closing of Don and Dona’s establishment. It is one of the types of businesses that small towns like to attract. It will be missed.

Likewise it is also disappointing to learn the lack of involvement by the city led to the demise of this business.

While the mayor spent the day with the state asking for an extension on the grant money to repair the facades, it seems more pressure should have been put on the contractor months ago. If the mayor had paid more attention to the business at hand, perhaps the outcome of this closing would have been different.

By all means the contractor should be held accountable. They were contracted to provide services. The city leader also needs to be held accountable for failing to act within a reasonable time frame to enforce those contracts that were signed.

Doing nothing or playing phone tag is not an option. Failing to properly execute on the job you were elected to do results in the city losing a business we have come to love. That is just not acceptable.

Someone needs to wake up and do their job.
