To the editor:

In an era of “transparency” I would really like to know why the Greenwood park board and the city redevelopment commission members (all appointed positions) are so driven to shove this “aquatic” center down our throats.

The petition drive proved the majority of Greenwood residents were against it. They just wanted the city to build a manageable and affordable pool for our families. One that doesn’t need an additional $200,000 in sponsorships fees or $126,000 for an outside management company to run “because it’s so big and complicated.”

This is quite a bit of additional money for an attraction that will only be used eight weeks a year weather permitting. July this year was pretty cool. And don’t forget, our schools are back in session by August. Why does the city insist on building this “white elephant?”

The YMCA was smart and walked away. Too bad the taxpayers don’t have that option. The burden will be on us.
