Mosquitoes collected in Johnson County have tested positive for the West Nile virus.
The Indiana State Department of Health has been trapping and testing mosquitoes from across the state. In three different batches from the Greenwood area, mosquitoes tested were positive for West Nile, said John Bonsett, county health department director.
Tests have found the virus in Johnson County in past years, too, he said.
The mosquitoes were caught near the Old Town Greenwood area on June 20 and 26, he said.
State tests also found the virus in mosquitoes in four other counties, he said.
The positive test should remind people to be extra vigilant to protect against mosquitoes, even with the dry weather, Bonsett said.
