The Crossroads Brass Band, Johnson County’s only British-style all-brass band, will perform at Franklin College April 6.
The concert will start at 4 p.m. at Custer Theatre. The theater is in Old Main at Monroe Street and Branigin Boulevard.
The show is a warm-up for the band’s first national competition. Crossroads Brass Band will take part in the North American Brass Band Championships on April 11 and 12.
Bands from all over the U.S. will compete, said Don Bookout, managing director of the band.
Crossroads Brass Band formed in 2012 and features members from Indianapolis and surrounding communities as far away as Bloomington and Kokomo.
The band features people of varying musical experiences, from former and current band directors, retired military and amateurs looking for a place to dust off their instruments, Bookout said.
Though nearly at full membership, the band has openings in the bass and cornet sections. Members are looking to fill those spots, particularly with the competition coming up, Bookout said.
The band rehearses from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays in room 102 of Johnson Center for the Arts at Franklin College.
Membership is open to any brass and percussion player. Auditions are not required.
