A newly elected county commissioner will begin his duties early.
County Commissioner-elect Ron West will fill an open county commissioner seat until he officially takes over the position next year.
Earlier this month, John Price resigned from the seat that represents District 3 in the northern part of the county because he was elected as a state representative.
The Johnson County Republican Party conducted a caucus and selected West to fill Price’s seat for the remainder of his term, which ends Dec. 31, county Republican Party chairwoman Sandi Huddleston said.
West was elected to become a county commissioner in the general election and would take office in January. But after the caucus, it was decided he will take over Price’s seat on the three-member board of commissioners now.
Because West will fill the commissioners seat, he has to leave his county council seat immediately.
A caucus will be conducted on Nov. 29 to fill West’s county council seat. The person selected will fill the position until Dec. 31.
In January, John Myers, Loren Snyder and Brian Walker will take office after running unopposed for three open council seats in the November election.
