Honor society picks 10 local Ivy Tech students

Follow Daily Journal:

Ten Johnson County Ivy Tech Community College students have been inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa honor society.

The honor society is for students at two-year colleges.

The students are Mohamed Mohamed of Edinburgh; Ruth Butler and Angela Guier of Franklin; Stacy Deaton, Donald Ford, Beckie Kinkead and Patricia Paxton of Greenwood; Amanda Latesky of Nineveh; and Amanda Berry and Michael Swinford of Whiteland.

Phi Theta Kappa is the only nationally acclaimed honor society serving two-year colleges that offer associate degree programs. Membership is extended by invitation only.

To be considered, a student must have accumulated the number of hours used by that college to designate full-time status, have completed at least 12 hours of course work in courses leading to an associate degree and have established a grade-point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 point scale, among other considerations.
