An Indianapolis man was arrested after leading a deputy on a high-speed chase along State Road 135 late Monday night.
Tomas Garatachia, 23, was arrested on charges of criminal recklessness, resisting law enforcement, aggressive driving, driving without a license and operating while intoxicated.
A Johnson County Sheriff’s Office deputy was driving south on State Road 135 near Meridian Parke Lane shortly before midnight when a car sped by, going 61 mph in a 45 mph zone. The deputy tried to stop the car, but the vehicle turned around and began driving north on State Road 135, a sheriff’s office report said.
The deputy chased the vehicle, and the pursuit at one point reached speeds of 124 mph. Near the entrance of Meridian South Apartments, the vehicle tried to turn west, lost control, slid onto the curb and nearly hit a fence. The deputy then saw the driver get out and run along Waterbury Road. He was arrested after he tripped and fell, the report said.
Garatachia had a blood-alcohol content of 0.15 percent, nearly twice the legal limit, and told police he had never driven before, the report said.
Garatachia, 251 Lockwood Court, Apt. A, was taken to the Johnson County jail and held on $10,000 bond.
