Thanks to the caring neighbor who plants and tends the flowers on Nancy Barnett’s “grave in the middle of the road.” It makes me smile as I drive by. Another example of how one person’s act of kindness can make our world a better place.

Hearts to all the volunteers on the morning of May 25 who helped place flags on veterans’ graves at Greenlawn Cemetery. Thank you one and all.

Thanks to the Seals Ambulance Service technicians and crew that came to my house Feb. 19 for my wife. Their work and knowledge helped save her life. After a quick examination, they determined a problem with blood sugar levels. Her levels were very low, but by the time they reached the hospital it had raised to 48 and she was starting to feel better. Their quick and accurate work had saved her life. Thanks again for a job well done, and I know your good work does not always get praised.

Lots of hearts and appreciation to everyone who attended the 2013 Strawberries on the Square fundraiser. Thank you to Linda Norton for chairing the event for the ninth year in a row. We appreciate and thank all of our volunteers for their time and service. Thank you to the Franklin parks department and staff for providing and placing equipment on the courthouse square. We truly appreciate your generosity and hard work. Thank you to the Franklin Street Department for closing off designated areas. Also, a big thank you goes out to CenturyLink for sponsoring the event.

Darts to the folks who stole property from our yard. We have lived in the same home for more than 30 years. We were affected by the flood of 2008 but remodeled and returned. In all those previous years, we have had only one thing taken from our yard. However, in just the last few months, a light fixture and my childhood bike from the 1960s have been taken from our property. We have tried to make sure our gardens are visible and pleasant for those who pass by. Apparently someone liked them too much to be satisfied with just looking.
