A Center Grove area hardware store that closed this spring will reopen with a new, larger shop a few miles south at a slowly growing intersection.
Dannemiller True Value has purchased land and will build an 8,500-square-foot store near State Road 135 and Whiteland Road. The new store, which will be about 1,000 square feet bigger than the old one and cost about $700,000 to build, will be located just south of South Grove Landing Shoppes, owner Greg Dannemiller said. The company has been in business for 42 years.
The former hardware store location at 300 S. State Road 135 closed in early March. The land was sold, and the building was demolished along with the former Pizza King restaurant next door to make way for a new ALDI grocery store.
Employees have been working out of another Dannemiller location in Southport while owners searched for a new site for the store, Dannemiller said. The new location is about 4.5 miles south of the previous shop.
New homes are starting to be built in the area again, and it is a good location for the business to serve builders and new homeowners who may need hardware, lawn care supplies or equipment, Dannemiller said.
“Definitely it’s an area that has potential for growth. And I think we’ve seen this spring even a lot of the housing developments in that area that were established five or six or seven years ago have sold their last available lots and developers are eyeing the area,” Dannemiller said.
