A rural Franklin man was taken to a hospital after accidentally shooting himself in the thumb.
Police were called to Johnson Memorial Hospital about 8 p.m. Thursday to investigate a shooting.
Killian Piper told police he recently put a new trigger on his handgun and was putting it away after test-firing it outside his home in the 6100 block of East County Road 200N, according to a police report.
The trigger felt loose, so Piper loaded the gun and was trying to fix it when the gun misfired. The bullet hit him near his left thumb and passed through his hand, the report said.
Piper’s brother was in the room when the gun went off and drove him to the hospital, the report said.
