Isom Elementary School’s guidance counselor has earned a scholarship to a program that will help her get students in a college state of mind.
Yolanda Santos attended the Indiana Youth Institute’s 2014 Postsecondary Counseling Institute earlier this month.
Counselors at the institute learned more about attaining education after high school and the options available to students, from one-year credentials and apprenticeships to associate and bachelor’s degrees. Counselors also learned tactics for developing a college-oriented culture in their schools.
Counselors who worked at schools with high percentages of students eligible for free and reduced-price lunch were given the scholarships.
