Franklin College senior baseball player Scott Windler and junior men’s tennis player Evan Pierle have earned Player of the Week recognition by the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Windler led the Grizzlies to a 3-1 record last week, with victories against Wabash College and a series triumph over the College of Mount St. Joseph. The outfielder batted .471 (8 of 17) and scored seven runs. Five of his eight hits went for extra bases, including two home runs.
For the season, Windler leads the Grizzlies with a .424 batting average, 25 hits, 19 runs, seven doubles, four home runs and 21 runs batted in.
Pierle played a vital role in Franklin picking up its first victory of the season, defeating Mount St. Joseph to even the team’s conference record at 1-1 early in the spring season. He recorded wins in doubles and singles action.
Pierle, a junior, dropped only one game in his two wins, earning an 8-0 triumph at No. 3 doubles and a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles.
