Greenwood is buying four new dump trucks to spread salt on icy streets in the winter and haul asphalt for street repairs.
The city is purchasing the trucks for $590,260 from Kenworth of Indianapolis, and trading in three old trucks, which are 15 years old or older.
The new trucks are being paid for from the city’s local road and street fund.
After years of hauling salt, the trucks the city is trading are wearing out and need to be replaced, street department supervisor Kenneth Duncan said.
A fourth truck the city is buying will increase the street department’s fleet to 15 trucks. The city needs another truck because of growth, including annexations. The street department now has a larger area to take care of, Duncan said.
The new trucks will arrive in December or January.
