Greenwood OKs tax break, cash for filter maker

Follow Daily Journal:

Greenwood has approved giving a new company money and tax breaks on equipment.

Midwest Purification LLC plans to manufacture filters for drinking water later this year in Greenwood. The company asked the city for a five-year property tax break and $50,000 cash to pay for equipment.

The cash would help the company get started manufacturing the filters June 1, president Michelle Straumins said. The money will help with the company’s cash flow and go toward equipment that makes the filters, she said. The incentives from Greenwood were among the considerations when the company decided where to start Midwest Purification, she said.

National Trade Supply, Midwest Purification’s parent company, plans to invest $6 million to start the company and hire 40 to 50 employees within three years. Midwest Purification will hire eight to 10 employees this year.

The Greenwood City Council unanimously approved the incentives.
