Getting to Know: Chris Wood

Chris Wood is an advanced placement history teacher at White-land Com-munity High School.

Why did you want to become an educator?

To help students understand the big ideas that make the historical events of the past so important as we move into the future.

What is your favorite historical time period to teach? Why?

Post-World War I through the end of the Cold War. The events of this era influence so many of challenges and issues we face in the world today.

If you weren’t teaching, what would you be doing?

Working on a train and traveling the country.

Name one thing a student has taught you.

Always strive to be the best in whatever you are doing.

What are your plans for summer break?

My wife and I are expecting our second child (boy) in July.

Why did you want to become a history teacher?

To hopefully help students learn about the stories and events that helped make the world what it is today. Help them find a personal connection.

What reality show would you be on?

“American Pickers” or “Storage Wars”

What is your favorite aisle in the grocery store?

The meat department.
