Fire damaged a garage at a home north of Amity, but firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to the rest of the house.
Firefighters were called to 2654 U.S. 31 South about 8:15 a.m. Thursday. Flames were visible in the attached garage.
A woman and child were home at the time but were able to get out of the house and were not injured, Amity Fire Chief Jackie Brockman said.
Engines from other nearby fire departments also arrived quickly, and firefighters were able to put out the flames in about 20 minutes. The fire heavily damaged the garage and a back room in the garage, but it likely could be rebuilt, Brockman said. The home did get some smoke damage but was not burned, he said.
Firefighters spent about three additional hours dousing hot spots.
Brockman said Amity firefighters are investigating what caused the fire, but it is not suspicious.
