TERRE HAUTE — Franklin College broke the game open in the first half and went on to rout host Rose-Hulman Institute 56-39 in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s basketball contest Wednesday night.
The Grizzlies improved to 7-2 in the HCAC, remaining in a second-place tie with Defiance College, and upped their overall record to 13-3 by winning their seventh straight contest overall.
The host Engineers fell to 2-7 in the conference and 6-10 overall.
Franklin senior guard Lindsay Rich hit 6 of 8 shots and added five free throws to lead all scorers with 17 points. Junior forward Krista Schott contributed 11 points, five rebounds and seven assists.
Jess Prewett and Lindsey Dall chipped in eight points each for the Grizzlies, who outshot Rose-Hulman 48.9 to 39 percent.
The Engineers were led by Kelsey Ploof, who was the only Rose-Hulman player to score points in double digits (14) and grabbed a game-best eight rebounds.
Rose-Hulman had the advantage in rebounds (30-24) but committed 26 turnovers.
