Preseason awards keep piling up for members of the Franklin College football team, with three players being named to Beyond Sports Network’s NCAA Division III preseason All-America team.
Senior wide receiver Kyle Linville joined senior quarterback Jonny West and senior defensive back Zack Corpe in being honored by the sports organization.
Linville enters the fall season holding Franklin career records in receiving yards (3,317) and touchdown receptions (39). His 200 career receptions are seven shy of the school record.
He earned third-team All-America honors last season by D3football.com after setting a school record with 85 catches and 21 touchdowns.
Linville also has earned recognition as a 2013 preseason All-American by Lindy’s Sports and The Sporting News.
West completed 66 percent of his passes and threw for 33 touchdowns last season. He was named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference’s 2011 Offensive Most Valuable Player after tossing for 3,581 yards. West has led the Grizzlies to consecutive second-round Division III playoff appearances.
Corpe had seven interceptions in earning the HCAC’s 2012 Defensive Most Valuable Player Award. He has 16 career interceptions and has returned four interceptions for touchdowns.
Senior punter Michael Parks rounds out the players receiving preseason accolades, earning All-America honors by Lindy’s Sports.
Head coach Mike Leonard’s 2013 team is expected to return 20 starters from last season’s 9-3 squad, including an 8-0 conference record that wrapped up a third-straight HCAC championship. The Grizzlies defeated Adrian College in the first round of last year’s NCAA playoffs.
Franklin opens the 2013 season Sept. 7 at the University of Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio. The home-opener will be against Butler University on Sept. 14 at Faught Stadium.
