Police arrested four people Tuesday after a Franklin man reported that he was robbed in his apartment.
The four, arrested in Columbus, are: Joseph Lee Manning, 33, who did not list a current address in Tennessee; Carlene Renee Garrett, 31, 1535 Browntown Road, Crossville, Tenn.; and John Collin Phipps, 22, and Jennifer Marie Houston, 24, both of 9181 Lantana Road, Crossville, Tenn.
Police said a Franklin man was held down and his prescription medication, cellphone and cash were stolen.
Manning, a former Franklin resident, knew the victim, and the four had stayed at the victim’s apartment at 348 Kentucky St., Apt. 2, overnight Monday, Franklin Police Department Detective Adam Joseph said. The victim called police about 3 p.m. Tuesday and told officers the four people had held him down and stole the items before leaving in a white Pontiac van or sport utility vehicle.
Shortly after, Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department deputies stopped a vehicle matching the description at an Interstate 65 exit. Franklin police drove to the scene, searched the vehicle and interviewed the four people before arresting them, Joseph said.
Manning was arrested on charges of robbery, criminal mischief and interfering with reporting of a crime. Phipps was arrested on a charge of robbery. Garrett was arrested on charges of assisting a criminal and failure to appear. And Houston was arrested on a charge of assisting a criminal.
The Johnson County prosecutor will decide what, if any, charges to file.
All four were taken to the Johnson County jail, where Manning was being held on $10,000 bond, Garret on $8,350 bond, and Phipps and Houston on $8,000 bond each.
