A Franklin man was arrested after police say he grabbed a girl he was dating by the neck.
Austin James Hertenstein, 18, of 937 Creekwood Lane, Franklin, was arrested on a charge of strangulation.
He was arrested after an incident last month when Hertenstein was at his girlfriend’s house. When the girl tried to make a phone call, Hertenstein grabbed her around the neck and used his arm to squeeze her neck, police said.
She told police she struggled to breathe, and Hertenstein then let her go.
While strangulation means the act of killing by squeezing the throat, Indiana law defines it as intentionally applying pressure to another person’s throat or obstructing their nose or mouth.
Hertenstein was taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was being held on $4,000 bond.
