Franklin College women hang on for road victory

The visiting Franklin College women’s basketball team edged Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Manchester 44-42 on Saturday afternoon.

The host Spartans took the lead 7-6 five minutes in to the first half and almost led by double digits with 6:48 left to play. But the Grizzlies used an 8-0 run to end the half to trim the deficit to 23-22 at halftime.

Franklin took the lead early in the second half and kept it the rest of the way, though the score was close throughout.

Senior guard Lindsay Rich led the Grizzlies with 14 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore center Lindsey Dall contributed 12 points and five rebounds.

Manchester was led by junior forward Erynn Meiklejohn with 13 points.

The Grizzlies improved to 11-3 in the HCAC and 17-4 overall. Franklin remains in second place in the conference, just one game behind leader Transylvania.

Manchester fell to 7-7 in the conference and 8-13 overall.

The Grizzlies host HCAC rival Rose-Hulman on Wednesday.
