Career-best performances have earned Franklin College basketball players Bailey Howard and Katie Brewer honors as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week during the first week of the conference season.
Howard was honored for the second consecutive week after scoring 45 points in leading the Grizzlies to a victory at Bluffton University on Saturday. That offensive performance was the third-most points ever scored in a HCAC game and came one point short of tying Franklin’s single-game record.
The 5-foot-11 senior guard tied the single-game 3-point field goal percentage record by making all seven of his shots from behind the arc. He scored 31 points during the first half.
For the season, Howard leads the HCAC by scoring 26.1 points per game.
Brewer, a 6-foot-2 sophomore forward, averaged a double-double with 20 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in games against Hanover College and Bluffton. She set career-highs with 25 points and 13 rebounds during Franklin’s come-from-behind victory over Hanover.
Brewer had a strong all-around week with eight steals, six blocks and six assists in the two games. For the season, she leads the Grizzlies with 13.3 points and 6.9 rebounds per contest.
