Franklin College juniors Patrick Ellis and Anna Murdock have been recognized as Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Track and Field Athletes of the Week for outstanding performances at Saturday’s Indiana Division III Championships.
Ellis and Murdock helped lead the Grizzlies to third-place team finishes in their respective meets.
Ellis is the Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after recording victories in the triple jump and long jump events, with distances that rank among the nation’s best this outdoor season. His 47 feet, ¼ inch performance in the triple jump is the eighth-best Division III performance, while his winning long jump (23-2¾) ranks 14th in the country.
Ellis was the 2014 HCAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Year.
Murdock, meanwhile, continued her outstanding outdoor campaign with three wins and was named the Female Track Athlete of the Meet at the Indiana Division III Championships.
She had individual wins in the 800- and 1,500-meter runs and ran the anchor leg on Franklin’s victorious 1,600-meter relay team. Murdock won the 800-meter run by nearly five seconds (2:23.) and recorded a six-second triumph in the 1,500-meter run (5:04.26).
Her times in both events are the best recorded this season by HCAC runners, and she competed in the 800-meter run at the 2013 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships.
