INDIANAPOLIS

The book on Robert Vaden has long centered on his ability to score, and not any sort of aptitude for preventing others from doing the same.

Be that as it may, the 6-foot-5 swingman understands he must quickly and convincingly make a name for himself as a lockdown defender to have any chance of making an NBA roster.

Vaden’s efforts currently are channeled into the competition the Indiana Pacers’ rookie/free-agent team faces starting Monday afternoon at the annual Orlando Summer League.

At 27, the former Pike High School standout who played two seasons at Indiana University before following fired Hoosiers coach Mike Davis to the University of Alabama-Birmingham, claims title to the senior member of the Pacers’ summer roster, with room to spare.
