Franklin firefighters were able to put out a car fire in a garage Tuesday morning before flames spread to the rest of the house.
Firefighters were called to the 1900 block of East County Road 125S, south of Franklin, about 6:15 a.m. after flames started shooting out from under the hood of a car in the garage. The driver said she smelled smoke on her way home and when her husband went to check, a fire had started under the hood, fire department spokesman Brad Epperson said.
The two adults and their three children were able to get out of the house after the fire started. No one was injured.
The car was totaled and the garage sustained heavy smoke and heat damage from the fire. The house had minor smoke damage, but the fire was contained to the garage, Epperson said.
Firefighters spent about 45 minutes putting out the fire and clearing out smoke.
