Investigators are looking into a fire that destroyed an outdoor kitchen at the Nineveh Masonic Lodge late Thursday night.
Officials are investigating the cause of the fire, but they think it is suspicious because of the fire's burn patterns, Nineveh Volunteer Fire Department Chief Rick Woehlecke said.
Firefighters with the Nineveh Township Volunteer Fire Department arrived at the lodge at about 11:45 p.m. and the fire had engulfed an outdoor kitchen at the back of the building where members of the lodge had fish fries. The flames were spreading into the kitchen in the lodge's basement, Woehlecke said.
The firefighters had the fire under control in 10 minutes, but the blaze destroyed the outdoor kitchen and caused smoke damage to the lodge's basement and first floor, Woehlecke said. The lodge had several fryers and grills in the outdoor kitchen that were also destroyed, Woehlecke said.
Woehlecke said he is unsure of the total amount of damage.
A member of the lodge told police he did not think anyone had been at the lodge since the members had a meeting Wednesday night, according to a Johnson County Sheriff's Office report.
